The Festive Season including Christmas and New Year’s Eve is widely and enthusiastically celebrated by Thais, especially in Bangkok. From December or even earlier you’ll hear the many familiar songs of the season such as Jingle Bells in shopping malls and restaurants, most of which will have a Christmas tree and lots of glittering decorations. City streets and pavements will be aglow with colourful lights as well. And when New Year’s Eve arrives, expect massive countdown parties and spectacular fireworks displays.
Central world shopping mall is the “Times square of Bangkok” during festive season. Usually, the biggest Christmas tree is on Central world plaza, surrounded by local beer gardens, food stalls and concerts. Another favourite place to enjoy festive celebration is along the Chao Praya River. At Asiatique Riverfront night market, a countdown party is organised every year and broadcasted on television. You can also choose to spend the last hours of the year on a floating restaurant or on a roof top, to add some magic.
